Travel

Detour Discotheque 2024 takes place in multiple venues in the Swiss Alps, in and around the Lauterbrunnen valley. Travel is big part of the adventure.

Getting to Lauterbrunnen

Lauterbrunnen is the area south of Interlaken, and the main hub for Detour Discotheque 2024. The nearest international airports are Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Bern. Trains run regularly from these airports to Interlaken, from where you can connect to Lauterbrunnen along the scenic railway that runs up the valley. The driving route follows major roads and is easy to navigate.

Cable cars

Two of the venues for Detour Discotheque 2024 are at the top of mountains. The cable car is the only way up, and these journeys are included in your ticket price (ticket holders will receive an email with more information on cable car schedules).

The cable car base station is at Stechelberg, ten minutes’ drive out of Lauterbrunnen. It has free parking. The journey from Stechelberg to the top of Schilthorn mountain takes approximately 32 minutes, across four legs:

  1. Stechelberg to Gimmelwald

  2. Gimmelwald to Mürren

  3. Mürren to Birg

  4. Birg to Schilthorn

Detour Discotheque takes place at Birg on Friday 10 May, and at Schilthorn on Saturday 11 May. Read more about the venues, here.

The cable cars are spacious and the journey is easy and jaw-droppingly beautiful.

Detour coach pass

A Detour coach pass for the weekend costs £30 (available to buy with your weekend ticket). Coaches will take pass holders between Lauterbrunnen and the cable car base station at Stechelberg at key times, including late at night.

On Sunday 12 May, Detour Discotheque takes place at Trinkhalle am Kleinen Rugen, outside Interlaken. Coaches will run between Lauterbrunnen and the venue, calling also at Interlaken Ost train station.

Public transport

The 141 bus runs regularly between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg during the day (note: the cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp will not be running).

Taxis

There is one taxi service in Stechelberg, and several options in Interlaken.

Getting around Lauterbrunnen

The village of Lauterbrunnen is incredibly picturesque, and easy to get around on foot. There are also plenty of places to hire bikes. Avoid driving if you can – parking can be limited and cars crowd the village’s narrow streets.

The clifftop village of Mürren is another stunning place to visit or stay. Reachable only by cable car, it’s entirely car-free, and easy to walk from one end of the village to the other. Check out the regular cable car schedule, here.
