FAQs
-
What is Detour Discotheque?
A pop-up party, appearing briefly in some of the world's most beautiful and unexpected locations.
-
Where and when is Detour Discotheque?
The 2026 edition takes place over three days and nights in the city of Matera in the Basilicata region of Italy – Friday 11-Sunday 13 September.
-
What is the venue?
The main venue is Fondazione Monacelle – an ancient convent turned cultural centre overlooking the historic Sassi of Matera. It’s a beautiful labyrinthine venue and parties will take place in spaces including its outdoor terrace and gardens and some of the vaulted inner rooms.
-
What are the opening times?
You can collect your wristbands and welcome packs from midday on Friday 11 September. The timings for the parties vary day to day. See the full programme.
-
Where can I stay?
Choose your own accommodation – there are loads of great, affordable options nearby. The city is easily walkable.
-
How many people are coming?
There are around 300 tickets.
-
What will the music policy be?
D.I.S.C.O. Think classic disco and world music from the 70s and 80s – something like legendary New York clubs The Loft or Paradise Garage. Check out our playlist.
-
What does the ticket price include?
Everything you need to know about what’s included with your ticket is shown here. It doesn’t include food, accommodation or other travel, but it does include parties, talks, tours, tote bags and other perks.
-
Who do I show my ticket to?
You’ll need to exchange your ticket for a wristband, which you can do when you first arrive at the venue. Just look for venue or Detour crew in orange T-shirts.
-
How do I get there?
Matera is easy to reach from Bari Airport, by car or bus. Read more about travel here. The historic centre of Matera is closed to most cars and the venues are all reachable on foot.
-
What will the weather be like?
September is, in our opinion, the best month to visit southern Italy – beautifully warm, but not oppressively hot. Pack a summer wardrobe with a few warm extras.
-
What will I need to bring?
Your phone to display your ticket, and some photo ID.
-
Will there be a cloakroom?
There’ll be space to store coats and bags, though items are left at the owners’ risk.
-
What else is there to do?
Plenty! There are myriad lovely towns in the area including Ostuni and Altamura, plus miles of coastline to explore. Matera is full of fascinating museums, and we’ll make recommendations as well as programming classes and other activities at Fondazione Monacelle.
-
What if I can't come any more?
There will be an official ticket exchange via our partner, Tixel, where you can sell your ticket (including to your friends, via a private link). The ticket exchange will open closer to the time. This is the only way to sell tickets. Other than that, they are non-refundable and non-transferable.
-
What's the dress code?
Detour is very much a wear what you want event – just put on what you feel comfortable dancing in. However, we do suggest themes for your outfits. On Friday 11 September it’s ‘Cinema Paradisco’ (dress like an off-duty Italian movie star) and on Saturday 12 September ‘Chiaroscuro’ (light and dark and all the fun stuff in between).
