Meet-ups in Matera
Detour Discotheque is no longer organising any events or experiences in Matera. However, some of our friends and former partners will be welcoming anyone from the Detour community who is still making the trip.
Area 8, a brilliant bar and restaurant in the Sassi near Piazza Pascoli, is offering a free welcome drink to anyone from the Detour community arriving from 7pm on Saturday 12 September. There will also be some reserved tables for the group.
The venue serves delicious food and is open until around 2am. It’s a vibey local hangout and a great place to soak up the Materan atmosphere.
This beautiful former convent was planned to be the main hub for Detour Discotheque 2026 and is well worth visiting regardless.
If you’re in Matera, we suggest dropping in during the day on Saturday 12 September. Now a cultural centre, the foundation hosts exhibitions and other cultural activities across its many beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. Entry is free, although visitors can make a donation to support the foundation.
WhatsApp group
We’ve set up a WhatsApp group for anyone still travelling to Matera who would like to connect with others from the Detour community.
Please note that the group is public and unmoderated. Any meet-ups, plans or activities arranged through it are entirely informal and between members of the group, so please use your own judgement and look after yourselves and each other.
Once again, we’re so sorry that the event has been cancelled. We hope those of you still travelling have a wonderful time in Matera, and we hope to see you again in better circumstances.
